The Milford Stone House

The Stone House, where Jim and Tyler, then Carol Ann and John later grew up, was built by Donald and Ethel Travis next to the Delaware River Bridge Commission Toll Plaza one mile south of Milford on Route 209. It was bought from Donald in the 1980's by the Federal Government under the Eminent Domain law for the Tocks Island Nuclear Power Plant in Stroudsburg. It is one of the few buildings not destroyed by the Tocks program. Congress abandoned the Nuclear Plant program and made the Delaware River a Wildlife and Scenic area instead. Naturally, no land was returned to the thousands of property owners forced to vacate. Do you think the Deed to you home is safe? At least Tocks Island was to provide a common benefit. Nowadays, Eminent Domain is being used to build Shopping Malls. Trust the Government at your own risk!
